Faith in Focus: Job One

Haggai 1:7-9

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, that I may take pleasure in it and that I may be glorified, says theLord. You looked for much, and behold, it came to little. And when you brought it home,I blew it away. Why? declares the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that lies in ruins, while each of you busies himself with his own house. “

Featured Presentation: How to Master Your Margin

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary describes margin as “an extra amount of something (such as time or space) that can be used if it is needed.”

1. Time Margin

  • After accounting for the time commitments of your day and essential life responsibilities, there is some time left—hopefully. The amount of remaining time is your time margin.

2. Psychological Margin

  • Psychological margin refers to the mental and emotional acuity that one still has after dealing with the personal, vocational, relational obligations, and stressors of the day.

3. Physiological Margin

  • Our physical bodies have limitations. While those limitations vary from person to person, we all have boundaries beyond which we cannot push ourselves.

4. Financial Margin

  • Your expenses minus your liabilities (what you owe others) is your financial margin.

Here are five process improvement tips that you can start putting into practice this week, which will help you to develop margin mastery over the long haul.

  • Tip #1: Awaken thirty minutes earlier each day this week and commit that cumulative 3.5 hours to your building process.
  • Tip #2: Randomly tell three people who are important to you why you appreciate them.
  • Tip #3: Eliminate one thing from your diet this week that you know is bad for your health.
  • Tip #4: Allocate 1% of your income this week to a personal development course.
  • Tip #5: Identify an accountability partner to ensure that you complete these five tips.

Faith in Focus: Tell Time

Isaiah 12:4

“In that day you will say: “Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted.”

Featured Presentation: How to Craft a WINfluential Voice

Effectively crafting your voice to serve those within your sphere of influence entails five interrelated steps that ultimately culminate the listening experience and create a sense of belonging.

1. Listen to Serve

  • Solutions are something that you give. Service is something that you demonstrate.

2. Listen for Common Ground

  • The key is identification. By listening, you are able to craft your voice to show that you identify with the experiences of your community.

3. Listen Inquisitively

  • Inquisitive individuals stand out from the crowd because they exude care and depth in a culture that often feels needy and shallow.

4. Listen for Strengths

  • Listening for strengths is important in a culture that saps people of their resilience. By listening for strengths and then authentically reinforcing those strengths with people, you build their self-confidence. You help them see a grander vision of themselves.

5. Listen Perpetually

People typically end exchanges with a period. But, what if your important exchanges ended with different punctuation? How about a comma or dash that suggests there is more to come? Or maybe a question mark that expects a reply? The point is that if you make a habit of extending the conversation, then you are inviting the other person to stay in dialogue with you.

Faith in Focus: Tell Time

Ephesians 5:15-17

“Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

Featured Presentation: How to Reach Your Max Potential in One Hour

In 2013, the Bureau of Labor Statistics conducted an American Time Use Survey.  Though obviously they reflect the average American and your situation might be different, the results reveal the secret to achieving extraordinary influence. Let’s take a closer look at the results of the study.

Time Use Survey Results:

  • Work: 9 hours
  • Sleep: 8 hours
  • Household, eating, and other activities: 5 hours
  • Leisure and Sport: 2 hours

The key to max potential is to take ONE of those two leisure and sport hours every day and focus in on your unique purpose.

Your one thing may be developing and packaging inspirational content (e.g., videos, blog posts, articles) related to your passion, building relationships with other influencers and your tribe, or expanding your email distribution list. But, your one thing may also be introspective, prayerful, and listening to what God is speaking. The important thing to remember is to tackle a task and work it through to completion.

Leave me a comment and let me know what are the challenges for you to personally carve out one hour a day. I’ll do my best to help you find that time to be great.
