Featured Presentation: 10 Things You Must Say to Save Your Spouse’s Life
You hear a lot about “Healthy Marriage”. But, often, we are emphasizing relational healthy or maybe spiritual health. But, rarely, when we talk about marriage do we emphasize physical health.
The four most common reasons we DON’T talk to a spouse about health issues
- You think it is normal (but it may not be)
- You don’t think it is that big a deal or you think “So what?”
- You don’t want to be hypocritical, if you do the same thing yourself
- The physician never mentioned it or made a big deal about it
The body is a beautiful and complex organism that is composed of 11 different systems that work in a complementary fashion. Here is a simple way to think about the body
- Input – what goes into your body – (e.g., Digestive, Respiratory)
- Throughput – what happens inside the body – (e.g., Circulatory, CNS, Endocrine)
- Output – what comes out of your body (waste) — (e.g., Excretory, renal)
Here are the 10 things that you must say to your spouse when you notice a pattern:
- You’re snoring very badly
- You’re forgetting more things
- Your sexual interest and/or performance has changed – (Libido, sex organs)
- You seem much more tired (Immunologic, CV)
- You’re eating poorly
- You have do more exercise (too sedentary)
- You need to lose weight – cardiovascular, metabolic
- You have to see the doctor (you have to get a second opinion) – avoid confirmation bias
- You’re going to the bathroom much more frequently – urologic
- You have to do something about your body odor / bad breath
